Jen Schier is a graphic designer & visual artist living and practicing in Calgary, A.B. She is currently completing her BFA at the Alberta University of the Arts, specializing in Print Media and Illustration.
Spending early life on a grain farm in rural Saskatchewan, she has spent her adult years in various cities across Western Canada, and has been working in the commercial art industry since receiving a diploma in Digital Art and Design at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, B.C. in 2013. She has a background in art history, which she studied at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, S.K.
In her commercial graphic work, Jen draws from her education of the history of art and design, incorporating hand-drawn elements and illustrative processes into her projects. In recent years, she’s focused increasingly on traditional printmaking practices, working primarily with linocut and screen-printing on both paper and textiles.
Themes within her visual art explore and celebrate the female form, often presenting nudes in a bold and colourful way. Her pieces carry themes of body positivity and self-love, sometimes tying in botanical elements and surrealist ideas. You can see her creative process and follow her work on her Instagram.
